Informatics-Based Evaluation of Guava Leaf Tannin as a Bio-Coagulant: A Health Technology Approach for Sustainable Water Safety.
Аннотация
BACKGROUND
The reliance on chemical coagulants like aluminum sulfate (Alum) in water treatment presents potential long-term neurodegenerative risks. This study evaluates the health technology potential of guava leaf (Psidium guajava) tannin extract as a sustainable bio-coagulant.
OBJECTIVES
To optimize tannin extraction and provide an informatics-driven comparison of its turbidity removal efficiency against traditional methods.
METHODS
Tannin was extracted using heat-assisted methods and quantified via UV-vis spectrophotometry. Jar tests were conducted on synthetic wastewater (55 NTU) across varying pH levels. Data analysis included statistical significance testing using One-way ANOVA.
RESULTS
Optimal extraction (30°C, 30 min) yielded 10.79 mg/L of tannin. At pH 7, tannin achieved a turbidity reduction of 64.67% (± 1.25, p < 0.05), demonstrating comparable performance to Alum (66.67% ± 0.95).
CONCLUSION
The findings suggest that bio-coagulants can be integrated into environmental health monitoring systems as a safer, informatics-supported alternative to minimize chemical exposure in public health infrastructure.
