Аннотация
How credibility is constructed under conditions of epistemic uncertainty is a central question in the sociology of knowledge. Telepathic animal communication (TAC) represents a field in which knowledge claims are inherently non-verifiable, yet services are actively marketed and consumed. This study examines how TAC practitioners construct credibility on their websites. Drawing on Grounded Theory, websites offering TAC services in Germany were qualitatively analyzed. Findings identify three central mechanisms of credibility construction. First, practitioners employ professionalized presentations, including structured services, therapeutic terminology, and biographical self-legitimation. Second, credibility is reinforced through emotional and relational appeal, including personalized communication, expressions of care, and perceived closeness between practitioner and client. Third, strategic non-verifiability emerges as a distinctive mechanism: the inherent unverifiability of TAC is actively mobilized to protect claims from falsification through interpretative flexibility. The findings show how credibility can be stabilized through professional, relational, and epistemic strategies despite the absence of empirical validation.
