Аннотация

Patient preference plays a big role in deciding which contraceptive option is right for them. Testosterone, while not a contraceptive, can induce amenorrhea, but it does not reliably inhibit ovulation, so pregnancy is still possible if transmasculine patients are exposed to semen. No contraceptive option is considered superior from a dysphoria standpoint and shared decision-making should be used to determine the right choice for the patient. Estrogen-containing contraceptives tend to be less frequently utilized given perceived dysphoria from taking estrogen. Outside of other underlying conditions, testosterone does not increase the inherent venous thromboembolism risk associated with hormonal contraception.
