Аннотация
Effective negotiation requires managing multiple tensions under conditions of uncertainty, interdependence, and change. Yet, negotiation research has largely examined specific strategies and tactics while offering relatively few frameworks for understanding the adaptive capacities that enable negotiators to manage these tensions. This review integrates research on negotiation, regulatory flexibility, and cognitive flexibility to propose a multidimensional framework of negotiation flexibility. The framework identifies three interrelated dimensions-cognitive-emotional, behavioral, and structural flexibility-distinguished by their object of adaptation: internal cognitive and emotional responses, observable strategies and behaviors, and the structure of the negotiation process itself. Together, these dimensions constitute a coordinated adaptive system for responding to evolving situational demands. This perspective suggests that negotiation effectiveness depends not simply on being flexible, but on calibrating flexibility by deploying and adjusting different forms of flexibility as negotiations unfold. We conclude by identifying directions for future research.
