OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of seropositivity to cytomegalovirus in women presenting for donor insemination and in their partners.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective examination of test results for patients presenting for donor insemination. Two hundred eighteen couples presenting for donor insemination were studied.
RESULTS: Overall, 37% of women were seropositive for cytomegalovirus. Their partners had a slightly, although not significantly, lower rate of seropositivity. No clear relationship between patient age and rate of seropositivity was found.
CONCLUSION: The rate of seropositivity to cytomegalovirus in couples presenting for donor insemination appears to be lower than that reported for the general population.
