Аннотация
INTRODUCTION: Aedes aegypti is a key vector in the transmission of arbovirosis such as dengue, urban yellow fever, Zika, chikungunya and others, whose expansion is due to its remarkable adaptation to urban environments. This work seeks to detect the early presence of A. aegypti in Southeastern Buenos Aires with the aim of strengthening integrated vector management strategies by governmental agencies and promoting community actions for its control, given its relevance in public health.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Systematic monitoring was carried out between 2017-2018 and 2023-2024 seasons along Provincial Route 2, between Mar del Plata and Maipú, and in nearby localities along National Route 226 and Provincial Route 88. Tire stations, micro dumps, cemeteries and private houses were analysed. Ovitraps were installed in home environments in Mar del Plata.
RESULTS: In 2021-2022 season, the presence of A. aegypti was confirmed in Maipú, being identified in construction sites, homes and tire stations. In subsequent campaigns, larvae and adults were recorded in new locations too, demonstrating persistence of the vector and expansion of its distribution. In Mar del Plata, so far, detection has been sporadic, with no evidence of stable populations.
DISCUSSION: Understanding the entomological and sanitary situation at the local level is essential for making evidence-based decisions on the appropriate use of strategies to control A. aegypti populations, in addition to reinforcing preventive actions such as source-reduction and elimination of breeding sites. These strategies are essential in the current epidemiological context to control the spread of A. aegypti and mitigate its impact on arbovirosis transmission.
