Аннотация
Due to the rarity of bites and reported literature, the clinical manifestations of envenoming by species of Micrurus are poorly represented compared to envenomings by viperid species. A biologist was bitten on the hand by a specimen of Micrurus annellatus while removing a hammock from a drawstring bag in the Amazon rainforest of Peru. The subsequent evacuation, symptom progression, and recovery were recorded in detail by the victim and those involved in the evacuation. We report the details of this case, expand on the known symptoms resulting from a bite by M. annellatus, and review the associated implications for field site safety, evacuation procedure, diagnosis, and occupational health risk control in the low-land Amazon rainforests.
