OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of psychoeducation for depression and parenting (PEDE) in adult psychiatry and to identify factors that promote or hinder its implementation.
METHODS: A cross-sectional postal survey was conducted among senior staff at psychiatric clinics and specialist departments in general and university hospitals throughout Germany (n=485).
RESULTS: The response rate was 46,2%. 21 clinics (9%) report they provide a PEDE group psychoeducation programme at the time of the survey. Three clinics used published manuals. According to the respondents, sufficient time resources, trained staff and the availability of manuals/modules were conducive to implementation.
CONCLUSIONS: Only a few facilities offer a family-centered, psychoeducational intervention in an inpatient setting.
