Аннотация
INTRODUCTION
Sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) is a common condition in cardiology. Through this study, we sought to investigate SAS in patients with chronic heart failure at the cardiology department of Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital from 2024 to 2025.
METHODOLOGY: We achieved a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study conducted from October 28, 2024, to January 24, 2025, including 205 patients with chronic heart failure. We screened for SAS using the Epworth scale, the STOP-BANG questionnaire, and the Berlin questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 27 software.
RESULTS
Among the 205 patients included, 54.15% were women. The mean age was 54±18.68 years, with a predominance of patients aged 50 to 75 years. The majority lived with a partner (77.56%) and high blood pressure was the most common medical history. Diuretics were prescribed in 94.15% of cases. The prevalence of OSA was 22.44% according to the Epworth scale, 26.34% according to the STOP-BANG questionnaire, and 30.24% according to the Berlin questionnaire. Factors associated with OSA, regardless of the score used, included age, high blood pressure, BMI, reduced LVEF, sedentary lifestyle, and NYHA stage III.
CONCLUSION
SAS is common in patients with chronic heart failure in our setting. Screening tools such as the Epworth scale and the STOP-BANG and Berlin questionnaires are relevant for the diagnosis of SAS in resource-limited countries.
