Аннотация

This article critically examines the emerging concept of palliative psychiatry, which advocates for treating severe mental illnesses as incurable or terminal conditions akin to terminal physical diseases. The author argues that this approach is based on flawed assumptions, including an outdated disease model, the false dichotomy between cure and care, and the notion that some mental illnesses inevitably progress to a point where further treatment is futile. The article warns that framing mental illness as terminal risks legitimizing physician-assisted suicide and neglects the potential for recovery.
