BACKGROUND: Palliative care aims to optimize the quality of life of critically ill patients.
OBJECTIVES: This study assessed Lebanese physicians' attitudes toward palliative care and their use of NECPAL tool in clinical decision-making.
METHODS: A cross-sectional design was adopted among 259 physicians using a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics software.
RESULTS: Among 259 physicians, 83.4% used NECPAL tool, with a mean attitude score toward palliative care of 4.37 (SD = 0.39). Higher attitude scores were significantly associated with NECPAL use (p < .001), presence of institutional policies supporting advanced care planning (p = .017). Multivariable regression confirmed NECPAL use, facility policies, and availability of palliative care units as independent predictors of attitudes (p < .05).
CONCLUSION: The findings highlight the role of institutional infrastructure and validated assessment tools in shaping physician's perceptions and promoting better integration of palliative care in Lebanon.
