Аннотация

Obstetric anesthesiologists are central to modern maternity care, providing labor analgesia, anesthesia for operative delivery, and peripartum medical expertise while contributing leadership in safety, quality improvement, education, research, and advocacy. As childbirth increasingly occurs within complex and heterogeneous health systems, the scope of obstetric anesthesia has expanded beyond technical care to encompass workforce sustainability, patient experience, and global equity. This commentary explores the converging priorities of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), the Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association (OAA), and the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), highlighting a shared vision for advancing obstetric anesthesia worldwide. Key themes include reaffirming access to labor analgesia as a patient right; strengthening minimum safety standards for obstetric anesthesia and cesarean delivery; addressing global workforce shortages through coordinated training, mentorship, and leadership development; and advancing education, research, and quality improvement through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Emphasis is placed on patient-centred and respectful care, meaningful outcome measurement, and implementation strategies that account for local context and resource variability. Together, these aligned priorities support a unified roadmap for obstetric anesthesia grounded in safety, excellence, and equity. Closer alignment between SOAP, OAA, and WFSA offers a timely opportunity to amplify advocacy, translate evidence into practice, and ensure that pregnant patients everywhere have access to safe, high-quality, and dignified obstetric anesthesia care.
