Аннотация

BACKGROUND: Environmental phenolic compounds have been associated with serum lipids. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

METHODS: We investigated 792 adults from Tongji Hospital in Wuhan. Linear regression models were used to quantify relationships among urinary bisphenol A (BPA), F (BPF), triclosan (TCS), inflammation response (white blood cell [WBC] count) and oxidative stress markers, and serum lipids. Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression (BKMR) was performed to evaluate the combined association of phenolic compounds on serum lipids. Bootstrapped mediation analysis was conducted to investigate the role of inflammation and oxidative stress markers.

RESULTS: Linear regression models showed urinary BPA (β=-0.017, 95% CI=-0.030∼-0.004) and BPF (β=-0.014, 95% CI=-0.024∼-0.003) were inversely associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). BKMR single-exposure analyses revealed BPA was inversely associated with triglycerides, while BPF was positively associated with triglycerides and inversely associated with HDL-C. Urinary BPA, BPF and TCS were associated with oxidative stress markers. Urinary BPF was associated with total WBC, lymphocyte, monocyte, and eosinophil counts. BPF showed significant mediating effects on triglycerides and HDL-C through WBC, lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils counts, with mediation proportions ranging from 11.30% to 40.29%.

CONCLUSIONS: BPF showed significant indirect effects on both HDL-C and triglycerides through inflammation response.
