Аннотация
BACKGROUND: Labia majora atrophy can lead to loss of vulvar protection, increased mucosal exposure, pruritus, and psychosocial distress. Hyaluronic acid (HA) injection is an effective, minimally invasive option for vulvar rejuvenation; however, evidence specific to Chinese women remains limited.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy, safety, and patient satisfaction of HA injection for labia majora atrophy in Chinese women.
METHODS: Twenty-three women with moderate to severe labia majora atrophy received HA injection therapy. Efficacy and satisfaction outcomes were assessed at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months using the Labia Majora Atrophy Scale (LMAS), Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS), satisfaction scales for labia majora appearance, sexual satisfaction, psychological satisfaction and vulvar pruritus severity. Injection-site reactions were recorded for 4 weeks to evaluate the safety of HA treatment.
RESULTS: All patients demonstrated significant improvement in LMAS during the first 3 months, with effects maintained for up to 9 months. GAIS scores indicated sustained aesthetic enhancement through 12 months. Sexual and psychological satisfaction and vulvar pruritus all improved significantly between 1 and 9 months. Local injection-site reactions occurring within 4 weeks after injection were mild and transient, including pain in 4 patients (17.4%), swelling in 3 patients (13.0%), tenderness in 2 patients (8.7%), and hard lumps in 2 patients (8.7%). No vascular events, infections, granulomas, or delayed inflammatory reactions occurred.
CONCLUSIONS: HA injection appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for labia majora atrophy in Chinese women. Treatment was associated with improvements in labia majora appearance, patient-reported sexual and psychological satisfaction, and vulvar pruritus.
