Alteration of Serum Albumin and Alkaline Phosphatase among Postmenopausal Women in Bangladesh.
Аннотация
Menopause is a natural biological transition and is characterized by reduced ovarian function and estrogen production. This hormonal shift induces several systemic changes, including alterations in protein and enzymatic profiles. Serum albumin and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) are two such biochemical markers that may be impacted in the post-menopausal period. To evaluate the serum levels of albumin and ALP in postmenopausal women compared to premenopausal controls, and to determine their potential as biochemical indicators during the menopausal transition. This cross-sectional study included 110 women, divided into two equal groups: 55 premenopausal women (Group I, aged 30-40 years) and 55 postmenopausal women (Group II, aged 45-55 years). Blood samples were collected and analyzed for serum albumin and ALP. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 26.0, with significance set at p<0.05. Serum albumin levels were significantly lower in the postmenopausal group (3.75±0.42 g/dL) than in controls (4.16±0.69 g/dL; p<0.001). Serum ALP was significantly higher in postmenopausal women (165.87±35.36 IU/L) compared to controls (152.71±10.68 IU/L; p=0.009). Estrogen deficiency during menopause is associated with decreased albumin and increased ALP levels. These biomarkers may serve as accessible, non-invasive indicators of biochemical alterations in postmenopausal women.
