Аннотация

Lawyers face heightened risks of psychological distress, burnout, and alcohol use compared to other professions, possibly reflecting their demanding work environment and reduced engagement in protective behaviours. This study, grounded in the Job Demands-Resources theory, explored the link between workplace demands and various mental health outcomes among lawyers, as well as the role of mindful self-care, adaptive and maladaptive passion for work. One hundred and eighty-nine private practice and in-house lawyers participated in an online survey assessing work demands, mental health indicators, mindful self-care, and passion. Results indicated that increased work demands were associated with higher psychological distress and burnout, with lower levels of mindful self-care indirectly explaining these relationships. Despite prevalent alcohol use, no significant associations with work demands were evident, and passion did not act as a moderator. The findings suggest that demanding workplaces may contribute to lawyers' distress and burnout, potentially via insufficient engagement in self-care practices.
