From Expert to Educator: Translating Expert Performance into Teachable Competencies Through Trainer Development in Endoscopic Simulation.

Endoscopy safety and quality depend on practitioner expertise, but traditional apprenticeship yields slow, uneven skill development. This article describes the Academy of Endoscopy's Train-the-Trainer program, translating science of expertise and simulation-based mastery learning (SBML) into scalable education. A framework is implemented: Level 1 Simulator-Based Trainers deliver SBML with standardized assessments; Level 2 Curriculum Designers create and validate minimum passing standards and oversee implementation; Level 3 Course Organizers scale SBML regionally and nationally. Results show Level 1 trainers improving instructional skills and trainee performance; Level 2 curricula validated; Level 3 international expansion. In conclusion, trained faculty enable safe, scalable SBML adoption.
