Endoscopy Simulators.

Endoscopic simulators allow trainees and practicing endoscopists to learn new skills in a safe environment, at their own pace. Four types of simulators are described: mechanical, ex vivo, in vivo, and virtual reality simulators. Mechanical simulators are the most commonly used type as they are simple to prepare and least expensive. Ex vivo and in vivo simulators use animal organs and live animals, respectively. They have better tissue feedback but are more difficult to prepare as they involve animals. Every simulator needs a curriculum to be more effective. The simulation-based mastery learning increases effectivity and efficiency of gastrointestinal endoscopy training.
