Аннотация

This 18-month prospective cohort study aimed to investigate how moderate-to-severe pain, sleep disorders, and their concurrent presence are associated with fall-related injuries in frail older adults with chronic pain METHODS: Through a survey of 174 frail older adults in Japan who meet at least one of the Japanese versions of frailty criteria, this study collected data on fall-related injuries, assessed using a falls calendar, moderate-to-severe pain, assessed using a Numeric Rating Scale, and sleep disorder, assessed using the Japanese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index RESULTS: The results from the cox proportional hazards analysis suggested that the concurrent presence of moderate-to-severe pain and sleep disorders was significantly associated with fall-related injuries IMPLICATIONS: To help reduce the risk of fall-related injuries in frail older adults with chronic pain, nurses and other healthcare professionals may need to pay closer attention to pain intensity and sleep disorders, and consider personalized approaches that extend beyond standard care practices.
