AIM AND BACKGROUND: Tongue swellings in pediatric patients can pose significant diagnostic challenges, requiring prompt and accurate intervention to prevent complications and ensure optimal outcomes.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 13-year-old girl presented with a progressively enlarging tongue swelling over the past 3 years. Clinical examination revealed a single purplish swelling on the right ventral tongue. Ultrasound imaging suggested a vascular malformation. Following consultation with a multidisciplinary team, surgical excision under general anesthesia was performed, and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis.
CONCLUSION: A comprehensive diagnostic approach, incorporating clinical history, examination, imaging, and histopathology, is essential for accurately diagnosing vascular anomalies and determining appropriate treatment strategies.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: A comprehensive diagnostic approach, incorporating clinical history, examination, imaging, and histopathology, is essential for accurately diagnosing vascular anomalies and determining appropriate treatment strategies.
