A review of Farnesiferol C: From molecular insights to anticancer potential and emerging therapeutic applications.
Аннотация
Farnesiferol C (FC), a sesquiterpene coumarin derived primarily from Ferula species, has emerged as a compound of significant pharmacological interest due to its broad-spectrum biological activities, with particularly compelling evidence for its anticancer properties. Various search databases were used to look for the keywords "Farnesiferol C" and "Ferula", selecting only papers published from 2000 onward and excluding earlier studies. This review synthesizes current knowledge from both basic biological studies and computational investigations, to provide a holistic view of FC's therapeutic potential. FC demonstrates strong anticancer effects, including the induction of apoptosis in various cancer cell lines, inhibition of tumor angiogenesis, and suppression of key oncogenic signaling pathways. Recent studies have also highlighted its promising ability to overcome multidrug resistance by modulating key efflux transporters such as P-glycoprotein, thereby restoring the efficacy of conventional chemotherapeutic agents. Moreover, FC exhibits antioxidant, antidiabetic, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory activities. Computational docking and molecular dynamics simulations have substantiated FC's high binding affinity for several cancer-related biological targets, including catalase, VEGF kinases, and HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. Computational studies and pharmacokinetic modeling have reinforced its drug-like properties and low toxicity. Together, these findings offer strong support for FC as a promising anticancer drug candidate with multi-faceted pharmacological benefits, while highlighting the importance of integrative research combining biochemical and computational methodologies.
