The theory and practice to record the brain stem response and middle latency have been described. Normative data and sources of error have been presented. The early evoked potentials are a powerful tool, to determine the degree of hearing loss in infants and to detect possible brain stem lesions. This exact diagnosis is an assumption for a successful rehabilitation.
