Аннотация

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Jianpi Fuzheng formula (JPFZF) is a traditional Chinese medicine formulation widely used in clinical practice to treat ischemic stroke (IS). However, there remains a lack of high-quality clinical evidence to support its efficacy in decreasing ischemic stroke recurrence rates and improving clinical outcomes.

AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate JPFZF's safety and effectiveness for vascular event recurrence rates and the clinical prognosis of IS.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 118 patients with IS of a one-to six-month disease course were randomly assigned by block design to receive either JPFZF or placebo in a 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome was the incidence of vascular events at 24 weeks, including stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and other cardiovascular incidents. Secondary outcomes included the clinical prognosis, encompassing neurological function (mRS and BI), neuropsychological assessment (MMSE and MoCA), and mental health (SAS and SDS). Assessments were conducted at the baseline and 24-week intervals. The intention-to-treat concept analyzed the results.

TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Register, ChiCTR1900026047.

RESULTS: The treatment of JPFZF can reduce the recurrence of vascular events and improve clinical prognosis by increasing MoCA scores while decreasing SAS and SDS scores compared with placebo. There were no appreciable variations in safety between the two groups.

CONCLUSION: JPFZF has the potential to be a successful substitute in the treatment of IS as it can lower the rates of vascular event recurrence and enhance clinical prognosis in IS patients with good tolerance.
