Аннотация
BACKGROUND: Psychodynamic assessment focuses on the internal psychological processes underlying complaints and symptoms. It provides insight into personality functioning and the intra- and interpersonal dynamics that shape the development and course of psychopathology.
AIM: To outline the role of psychodynamic assessment within the diagnostic process, focusing on both theoretical foundations and clinical application METHOD: Discussion of relevant concepts and methods based on the literature and clinical practice.
RESULTS: Psychodynamic assessment provides essential information on the nature, severity, and meaning of psychological complaints and symptoms, in both symptom and personality disorders. It provides a basis for treatment indication, the formulation of therapeutic goals, and the management of transference and countertransference within the therapeutic relationship. Relevant assessment procedures include semi-structured interview and self-report questionnaires.
CONCLUSION: Psychodynamic assessment complements standard descriptive categorical diagnostics and is essential for treatment indication and appropriate treatment planning.
