Аннотация
The present case report aimed to illustrate the orthodontic therapy management in an 18-year-old Caucasian male with a rare open bite condition with a short root anomaly. An 18-year-old male presented with an anterior and lateral open bite, difficulty chewing, and poor oral hygiene. Radiographic examination revealed short roots on the maxillary anteriors and premolars, consistent with a short root anomaly. The patient was diagnosed with an anterior open bite associated with a short root anomaly and a history of scleroderma. A non-surgical orthodontic treatment was performed using segmental mechanics and an extrusion archwire. After 22 months of treatment, the open bite was successfully closed, achieving Class I molar and canine relationships and improved facial esthetics without significant root resorption. The coexistence of an anterior open bite and short root anomaly complicates orthodontic management due to the risk of root resorption. The case demonstrates that an anterior open bite with short root anomaly can be effectively managed using a conservative orthodontic approach with careful force control and follow-up, achieving stable and esthetic results.
