Аннотация
INTRODUCTION: Human intestinal myiasis is an uncommon parasitic infection, usually related to the accidental ingestion of Eristalis tenax eggs.
METHODS: We report the case of a 47-year-old woman who presented with passage of motile larvae in stool. Diagnosis was established by macroscopic examination of the faecal sample.
RESULTS: Larvae compatible with E. tenax, a fly with worldwide distribution, were identified. Treatment with ivermectin was initiated, with favourable clinical outcome.
CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the importance of food hygiene and the need to consider parasitological examination in patients with nonspecific digestive symptoms and unusual stool findings.
