[Small bowel gastrointestinal stromal tumor in a young woman - from onset of symptoms to recovery].
Аннотация
The diagnosis of occult gastrointestinal bleeding can be challenging in many cases due to the lack of visible and perceptible symptoms. Suspicion is mostly raised by the presence of iron deficiency anemia or fecal occult blood test positivity. A 33-year-old female patient with severe iron deficiency anemia and significant abdominal pain presented at our department with prior negative gastroscopy and ileocolonoscopy findings. Subsequently, capsule endoscopy showed an ulcerated tumor-suspicious lesion in the jejunum, which was identified as a gastrointestinal stromal tumor based on biopsy samples obtained during jejunoscopy. The general condition of the patient deteriorated rapidly until a relatively urgent small bowel resection was necessary to be performed. Our case highlights the importance of considering small bowel malignancy in the cases of occult gastrointestinal bleeding, even in younger patients. Orv Hetil. 2025; 166(40): 1590–1596.
