Gasless robotic transaxillary hemithyroidectomy using the da Vinci single-port surgical system: first experience from Europe.

Gasless transaxillary robotic thyroidectomy eliminates anterior neck scarring while providing excellent cosmetic outcomes. The da Vince SP system employs a single robotic arm to deliver its full suite of tools: a 0° high-definition, three-dimensional, multi-jointed endoscope and three articulating EndoWrist instruments. We report the first two European cases of SP-assisted gasless hemithyroidectomy through a single transaxillary approach. Both hemithyroidectomies were completed safely without intraoperative complications, and both patients were discharged on postoperative day 2. Our initial experience confirms that SP-assisted gasless transaxillary thyroidectomy is technically feasible, safe, and yields excellent cosmetic results. Broader adoption and larger studies are required to evaluate its clinical advantages and limitations further.
