Аннотация
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is defined by a narrowing or occlusion in the arterial system that prevents the cardiovascular system from meeting the metabolic demands of the dependent vascular bed. PAD is becoming more prevalent globally and is associated with comorbid cardiovascular conditions and high health care costs. Intermittent claudication is a form of PAD that is characterized by reproducible pain in the lower extremities with exertion of a distal muscle group that resolves with rest. Surgery risks converting a typically benign disease process into a progressive process. Surveillance of patients with claudication is important for monitoring disease progression and can be intertwined with ongoing counseling and education.
