Аннотация

CONTEXT: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is frequent, affecting young patients of working age. The recent prognostic amelioration with new therapeutics, raises the question of the return to work (RTW) among this patients with controlled tumor.

OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this work was to evaluate the rate of return to work of patients after systemic treatment for NSCLC. Secondary objectives were to assess factors associated with RTW, as well as the obstacles and facilitators encountered.

METHODS: It was a bicentric study carried out between June 2023 and October 2024. Patients aged 18 to 62 years working at NSCLC diagnosis were included. A questionnaire was given to patients to collect socioeconomic information (job description, household distribution, level of education) and determine the incentives and obstacles to RTW.

RESULTS: Of 66 patients who responded to the questionnaire, the return to work rate was 33%. Having a preserved general condition with a performans status of 0 and being less than 55 years old at diagnosis were factors associated with return to work, while taking anxiolytics and/or antidepressants was associated with not returning to work in multivariate analysis. The after-effects of NSCLC and its treatments were responsible for struggles at work and were obstacles to RTW. Having a social life and financial matters were the main motivations.
