Correlation between serum uric acid and carotid artery plaque in ischaemic stroke patients based on age, blood pressure condition, and sex stratification.
Аннотация
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This study aims to examine the correlation between Serum Uric Acid (SUA) and Carotid Artery Plaque (CAP) in Ischaemic Stroke (IS) patients based on age, blood pressure (BP) and sex stratifications.
METHODS AND
RESULTS
We retrieved the data of IS patients hospitalized at the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of TCM from January 1, 2013, to May 1, 2023. Specifically, SUA was categorized into three groups. We evaluated the intrinsic connection through logistic regression analysis and estimated the predictive value through the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis of SUA-CAP. In the general population, the CAP-associated risk increased with SUA levels (P < 0.001). Based on the age and BP stratifications, CAP risk increased with SUA levels increment for Hypertension (HTN) patients and under-60-year-old prehypertension patients (P < 0.05). The Area under the ROC curve values were all greater than 0.7 (P < 0.01). Furthermore, based on sex stratification, the SUA-CAP relationship could be more significant in males. However, in normal BP patients, there appears to be a minimal correlation with SUA-CAP (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSION
For HTN patients and under-60-year-old prehypertension patients, attention should be paid to CAP risk when SUA levels increase, particularly for males who may require more care in this regard.
