PURPOSE: A case of atopic keratoconjunctivitis complicated by bilateral infectious ulcers is described.
METHODS: Both eyes underwent complete ophthalmologic examination and in vivo confocal microscopy imaging by using the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II Rostock-cornea-module (HRT II-RCM) and were photographed.
RESULTS: Topical antibiotics and corticosteroids associated with oral antibiotics and corticosteroids were given. After 4 weeks of treatment, the corneal lesions healed completely.
CONCLUSION: Bilateral infectious ulcers with perforation are a rare and severe complication of atopic keratoconjunctivitis. HRT II-RCM in vivo confocal microscopy imaging is useful in monitoring the progression of ocular surface diseases.
