Аннотация

INTRODUCTION

The effect of a motor control retraining (MCR) program and feedback on symptoms, strength, and function was investigated in individuals with shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS) and scapular dyskinesis (SD).

METHOD: 45 men suffering SIS and SD participated in this randomized, controlled single-blind clinical trial. Participants were assigned into control group (CG) (n = 15), motor control retraining (MCR) (n = 15), and motor control retraining with feedback (MCRWF) (n = 15). Pain intensity, pressure pain threshold, function, strength, proprioception, and scapular kinematics was assessed.

RESULT: A significant difference was observed between the groups in all the outcome variables except for 45-degree kinematics (p > 0.05). This study showed the effects MCR and MCRWF on the right, left, and central PPT (P < 0.05) in the motor cortex (P < 0.05), function (P < 0.005), proprioception (P < 0.05), and the strength of IR and ER muscles in both concentric and eccentric contractions at 60 and 120°/second (P < 0.05). The results showed that in the 90° kinematics (P < 0.05), 130° (P < 0.05), and the end-range of motion kinematics were significantly different. Finally, a comparison of the motor control group and the motor control with the feedback group showed no statistically significant difference between the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up time points (p > 0.05).

DISCUSSION AND

CONCLUSION

Eight weeks of MCR exercises with and without feedback can improve strength, proprioception, two-dimensional scapular kinematics at 90, 135°, and end-range, function, and pain parameters. The improvement induced by this exercise treatment will linger on even after one month of follow-up assessments.

TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study was retrospectively registered at Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials on April 14, 2023, and the unique trial number is IRCT20180414039299N1.
