[Central nervous system vasculitis in immunocompetent patients with cryptococcal meningitis].
Аннотация
Meningeal cryptococcosis (MC) is a serious fungal infection that can occur in immunocompetent individuals. Diagnosis in these patients presents a challenge due to its low frequency and variable clinical presentation. Neurological complications, such as central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis with cerebral infarctions, can complicate clinical management. This is a retrospective, observational study presenting two cases of CM in immunocompetent patients who developed CNS vasculitis. We reviewed their medical records and described the treatment administered and clinical evolution. Both were treated with steroids. The first patient required prolonged treatment with steroids and antifungals due to the recurrence of symptoms and brain lesions. The second showed clinical improvement with the initial administration of steroids and antifungals. These cases highlight the importance of considering MC in the differential diagnosis of immunocompetent patients and the use of corticosteroids in cases presenting with CNS vasculitis.
