Аннотация

Social workers' interactions with physicians in hospitals have a long history, but there is also a history of differences between physicians and social workers, with a focus on distinct "tribalism" and separate "silos." However, in recent years there has been more emphasis on "boundary blurring," interprofessional and integrated working, although social work still seems concerned about having a legitimate role in health care and about gaining recognition from physicians. Only limited research has been undertaken this century about the attitudes and perceptions of hospital-based physicians toward social work and social workers. This article explores recent international research and research in the UK surrounding physicians, their positive and negative perceptions of social work, and the implications of this for social workers in the UK, with some suggestions for changes in the future.
