Annual review of selected scientific literature: A report of the Committee on Scientific Investigation of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry.

The Scientific Investigation Committee of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry presents this review of selected 2024 dental literature to briefly address several topics of interest in modern restorative dentistry and prosthodontics. Each committee member offers discipline-specific expertise in their respective fields, which include (in order of appearance): prosthodontics; periodontics, alveolar bone, and peri-implant tissues; occlusion and temporomandibular disorders; sleep-related breathing disorders; oral and maxillofacial surgery, medicine, and radiology; and dental caries and cariology. This report aims to provide information that can influence complex diagnoses and daily dental treatment decisions, emphasizing current innovations, new materials and processes, emerging technologies, and future trends vital to restorative dentistry. Given the vast amount of literature published daily in dentistry and related fields, our report cannot be comprehensive. Instead, its purpose is to inform and update interested readers, serving as a helpful starting point for those who may seek more detailed information independently. Our goal is to help colleagues navigate the extensive volume of new information published annually. Ultimately, we hope this work supports readers in delivering evidence-based care to patients striving for healthier, happier lives.
