BACKGROUND: Data on the long-term effects of one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) are scarce. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the long-term outcomes of OAGB with a minimum of 10 years of follow-up.
METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, and PubMed. Two independent authors performed the selection and data extraction processes.
RESULTS: Eight retrospective studies involving a total of 1729 patients met the inclusion criteria. OAGB was associated with a mean body mass index reduction of 15.41 kg/m² at 10 years and 13.87 kg/m² at 15 years. Total weight loss was 31.80% at 10 years and 32.44% at 15 years, whereas excess weight loss was 75.87% and 69.81%, respectively. The resolution rates of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obstructive sleep apnea were 72%, 66%, 67%, and 86%, respectively. The incidence of de novo gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was 6%, and revisional surgery due to GERD occurred in 3% of patients.
CONCLUSION: OAGB demonstrates durable weight loss, favorable metabolic outcomes, and acceptable long-term safety.
