AIMS: The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the effect of different pediatric drugs on color stability of Bioflx crowns.

BACKGROUND: Bioflx crowns have emerged as a novel restorative option with the unique property of self-adaptability along with esthetics. Although Bioflx crowns have demonstrated promising clinical performance, their resistance to discoloration remains underexplored. Pediatric liquid medications, often administered to children, are known to cause staining in dental materials. Hence, this study aims to evaluate and compare the effects of different pediatric drugs on the color stability of Bioflx crowns.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 25 Bioflx crowns (n = 25) were utilized in this study, with five samples allocated to each of the five experimental groups. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the impact of different pediatric syrups on the color stability of Bioflx crowns. Each group was immersed for 2 minutes daily over a period of one week in one of the following commonly used syrups: Group I-Amoxicillin; Group II-Moxiclav; Group III-Metrogyl 200 mg; Group IV-Ibugesic; and Group V-I-Fer Kid. Color measurements were recorded both before and after exposure. Changes in color were assessed using a spectrophotometer, and statistical analysis was carried out using ANOVA followed by a post hoc test to compare the differences among the groups.

RESULTS: Color variance was least in the Amoxicillin group, followed by Augmentin, Metronidazole, Ibugesic, and I-Fer Kid, the group which showed the highest variance.

CONCLUSION: From the findings of the present study, we can conclude that Bioflx crowns, when immersed in different syrup solutions, showed significant color change in all samples. However, it was not visible to the naked eye. Hence, Bioflx crowns can be considered as a suitable treatment option.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Bioflx crowns are a novel option in pediatric patients in restoring esthetics along with durability and flexibility; hence, maintaining the color stability of these crowns in the oral cavity is crucial for patient acceptance and satisfaction.
