[The course of training mania depending on its development and anabolic steroids abuse].

A rare variant of non-chemical addiction - training mania is described. Based on the study of 100 bodybuilding trainees, aged from 20 to 30 years, the consequent stages of the disease development are considered and compared with 5 typical stages of other addictions. A presence of the first three stages - from initial one to complete formation of addiction - was observed for training mania. The possible causes of the absence of patients with final stages are discussed. A main feature of training mania is abuse to anabolic steroids, the action of which is considered to be the destructive component of the disease. Individual reaction to stressful life events it thought to be central in the pathogenesis of this disease.
