Translation and validation of the Italian amputee mobility predictor: Assessing functional mobility in lower limb amputees.

OBJECTIVES

This study aimed to translate, cross-culturally adapt, and conduct a preliminary validation of the Italian version of the Amputee Mobility Predictor (AMP-IT) to assess its psychometric properties.

METHODS

In this cross-sectional study, the AMP was translated into Italian in accordance with established guidelines. Twenty-eight individuals with lower limb amputation were recruited from various rehabilitation centres. The psychometric evaluation included assessing internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients, ICCs), and concurrent validity by correlating AMP scores with the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) and the Prosthetic Limb Users Survey of Mobility (PLUS-M).

RESULTS

The AMP-IT demonstrated excellent internal consistency for both the AMPPRO (α = 0.986) and AMPnoPRO (α = 0.980) versions. Test-retest reliability was also excellent, with ICCs of 0.94 for AMPPRO and 0.92 for AMPnoPRO. Concurrent validity was supported by strong correlations with the 6MWT (r = 0.75-0.76) and a satisfactory correlation with the PLUS-M™ (r = 0.62). The tool successfully discriminated between different K-levels ( p < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONS

The validated Italian version of the AMP is a robust, reliable, and valid instrument for the objective assessment of functional mobility in Italian-speaking individuals with lower limb amputation. It represents a valuable tool for clinicians to guide rehabilitation strategies and prosthetic prescription.
