LEARNING OBJECTIVES: After studying this article, the participant should be able to: 1. Understand the existing principles for lower extremity reconstruction for both traumatic and ablative defects. 2. Understand the important factors for lower extremity reconstruction-based anatomical regions. 3. Discuss perforator flaps and their application in lower extremity reconstruction.
SUMMARY: The Gustilo-Anderson open fracture classification is briefly reviewed. A comprehensive overview of the available flaps and methods for lower extremity reconstruction is provided.
