Аннотация
INTRODUCTION: The Dermojet is a needle-free drug delivery tool into the dermis. It is a valuable, safe and efficient alternative to traditional needles to treat nail dystrophy. Nail dystrophy refers to abnormal growth of the nail unit, with causes ranging from localized infections and trauma to manifestations of systemic diseases and genetic syndromes. The aim of this study is to explore the potential of Dermojet in treating idiopathic nail dystrophies.
METHODS: Nineteen cases diagnosed with idiopathic nail dystrophy were seen at the plastic surgery and dermatology clinics of Dr. Sulaiman AlHabib Hospital in Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia. Their ages ranged between 16-80years. There were 6 male patients and 13 females in the study, with one to 10 dystrophic nails. They were injected intralesionally with triamcinolone acetonide (40mg/mL suspension) at a dose of 2-4mg at the base of each nail using the Dermojet in each nail root area. The treatment was repeated every 4weeks.
DISCUSSION: Eighteen patients showed improvement from the second session and were completely healed after a different number of treatment sessions.
CONCLUSION: Dermojet is a valuable practical tool for injecting intralesional steroid in nail dystrophy, with no reported complications.
