Evaluation of the Role of Labiaplasty in Sexual Health and Partner Relationships.

BACKGROUND: Labiaplasty improves women's genital self-image, sexual function, and mental well-being, while enhancing male partners' sexual satisfaction and couples' overall sexual harmony.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate women with physical and functional complaints about the labium minus and the effects of labiaplasty on women's genital self-perception, sexual function, and psychological state, and the sexual satisfaction levels of their male partners.
METHODS: Ninety-seven women who underwent labiaplasty between January 2021 and June 2024 and their partners were included in the study. The Beck Depression Inventory, Female Sexual Function Index, Quality of Sexual Experience Scale, Female Genital Self-Image Scale, and Sexual Quality of Life-Female questionnaires were administered to women before and after labiaplasty. The Male Sexual Health Questionnaire-Ejaculatory Dysfunction, Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and New Sexual Satisfaction Scale were administered to male partners. Preoperative and postoperative data were compared for participants who were seen 1 year postoperatively.
RESULTS: In female participants, significant improvements were found in genital self-perception, sexual function, sexual pleasure, lubrication, orgasm, and overall quality of sexual life, and a statistically significant decrease in depression scores was observed. In male partners, ejaculatory function remained constant, but positive changes were found in general sexual satisfaction, impotence, premature ejaculation, and satisfaction levels.
CONCLUSIONS: Labiaplasty provides significant gains in not only aesthetics but also psychological and sexual well-being in women, and indirectly positively affects the quality of sexual life of male partners. It is thought that surgical intervention can increase sexual harmony in couple relationships as well as individual satisfaction.
