Аннотация
Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) is the most common cause of hospitalization in the United States. Management of LGIB requires a multispecialty team approach and algorithm for identification of the source, as well as the cessation of bleeding. Use of an LGIB scoring system has been shown effective in appropriately classifying patients amenable to early discharge versus those requiring further inpatient management. If a patient experiences recurrent LGIB, treatment algorithms should be restarted. Segmental resection for LGIB should be reserved for localized bleeding. Surgery for unlocalized LGIB included total abdominal colectomy.
