Аннотация
BACKGROUND: Authentic leadership (AL) and transformational leadership (TL) styles contribute to enhancing nurse-assessed patient safety (PS) and improving quality of care (QoC). However, in the identified literature, meta-analytic evidence is limited to a single study regarding the effect of TL style on nurse-assessed QoC.
PURPOSE: The study aimed to investigate the effects of AL and TL styles in nursing on nurse-assessed PS and QoC.
METHODS: The mean effect size was calculated using the random effects model. Duval and Tweedie's trim-and-fill method was used to analyze publication bias. The risk of bias of the included studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute appraisal tool.
DISCUSSION: The meta-analysis results revealed that AL and TL styles enhance nurse-assessed PS and improve QoC. These findings highlight that nurse managers adopting AL and/or TL styles is vital for delivering safe and high-quality care.
CONCLUSION: Healthcare organizations should prioritize education and training activities aimed at developing nurse managers' AL and/or TL skills.
