Аннотация
Extracranial internal carotid artery aneurysms are rare and may present with compressive or thromboembolic symptoms. We report the case of a 77-year-old woman with dysphagia and dysphonia caused by a large (5 cm) right internal carotid artery aneurysm with significant oropharyngeal mass effect. Preoperative vocal cord function was normal. Following multidisciplinary discussion, she underwent open resection with primary end-to-end anastomosis. Histology confirmed an atherosclerotic aneurysm. Postoperatively, she developed dysphagia requiring percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy and a unilateral vocal cord palsy, both of which improved. This case is notable for its size, compressive presentation, and transient multicranial nerve dysfunction following open repair.
