Аннотация
BACKGROUND: Adolescent stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is challenging to manage and significantly impacts quality of life. Treatment with urethral bulking is well established in adults but is understudied in the pediatric and adolescent population.
CASE: A young female athlete presented with refractory SUI beginning at age 10. After conservative measures failed, she underwent urethral bulking injection at age 14 with temporary benefit. Repeat injection at age 16 provided seven months of complete continence and uninhibited athletic participation.
DISCUSSION: Urethral bulking is effective for select patients with adolescent SUI, particularly those with structural etiologies and partial incontinence. Repeat injections are often required to maintain benefit.
CONCLUSION: Urethral bulking bridges the gap between conservative therapy and invasive surgery for adolescent SUI in the appropriate clinical context.
