Аннотация

INTRODUCTION: Odontogenic myxomas arising in the jaws are uncommon, with a recurrence rate of 25% on average. They are usually locally invasive, aggressive, benign, non-metastasizing neoplasms consisting of spindle- and stellate-shaped cells suspended in abundant myxoid stroma.

CASE PRESENTATION: An 11-year-old male patient visited our department with a complaint of gradually progressive swelling in the right lower third of his face for the past 2 years. Cone-beam computed tomography revealed a well-defined radiolucent lesion measuring approximately 15.3 × 15 mm.

CASE DISCUSSION: In this case report, we discuss a mandibular myxoma in a pediatric male patient treated with the less invasive approach of enucleation and peripheral osteotomy, performed under general anesthesia.

CONCLUSION: To conclude, early diagnosis and careful treatment planning are essential in the management of odontogenic myxofibroma. The choice between conservative and radical surgery must be individualized according to clinical presentation, patient age, histological findings, lesion location, and available surgical expertise (e.g., free flaps). In pediatric patients, particular attention should be given to preserving mandibular growth and function while ensuring adequate disease control.
