Liver mucinous cystic neoplasm: a challenging diagnosis case report.
Аннотация
INTRODUCTION AND
IMPORTANCE
Liver mucinous cystic neoplasm is a rare tumor with a challenging pre-operative diagnosis, as for our patient.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 43-year-old woman complained of dull, aching pain in the left hypochondrial region. Abdominal ultrasound demonstrated a solitary hypoechoic cyst within the left hepatic lobe. The initial suspected diagnosis was a hepatic hydatid cyst due to the country's endemicity. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was consistent with a hepatic mucinous cystic neoplasm. A left hepatectomy was performed. Histopathological examination of the surgical specimen confirmed the diagnosis. No recurrence was observed during postoperative follow-up.
CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Our case illustrated a rare entity with a challenging diagnosis. Liver mucinous cystic neoplasm could easily be misdiagnosed, especially in endemic areas. Appropriate exploration, such as MRI, had to be performed.
CONCLUSION
Liver mucinous cystic neoplasms are rare tumors, with diagnosis delayed due to insufficient recognition; hence, radiological workup plays a crucial role. Complete surgical excision remains the treatment of choice.
