Аннотация
BACKGROUND: Parenchymal calcification is not a characteristic neuroradiologic manifestation of Moyamoya disease (MMD) or Moyamoya syndrome.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize the prevalence, distribution, and clinical course of parenchymal calcification in patients with MMD or Moyamoya syndrome.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-center, retrospective cohort study was conducted between March 2002 and July 2023. Patients with a definitive diagnosis of MMD or Moyamoya syndrome were reviewed to identify those with parenchymal calcifications. Patient characteristics were determined based on established diagnostic criteria.
RESULTS: Among the 119 patients, pathological parenchymal calcifications were identified in 10 patients (8.5%). Five patients (4.2%) had no underlying predisposition to intracranial calcification.
CONCLUSIONS: Parenchymal calcification occurred in a subset of patients with MMD, even in the absence of known predisposing conditions.
